MUCOID PLAQUE - FACT OR FICTION?

MUCOID PLAQUE... Truth Mixed with a Lie...

MUCOID PLAQUE is a source of heated debate from both sides of the fence. One side claims that what you see pictured here at right is "mucoid plaque", a term coined by a practitioner of alternative medicine, and the other, the side of modern medicine, states that such simply does not exist... that what you see here is actually a result of the medications taken to rid one's self of this imagined malady, "mucoid plaque", the medication itself actually producing what you see here.

The truth? Both are correct in a way... but how can this be?

The truth is that "mucoid plaque", or whatever term you'd prefer to use, whether officially coined or not, actually does exist, to some extent - but it is NOT that which you see in the picture here.

Also, the statement that the medications taken produces what you see here in this photo is ALSO true... to an extent.

Confused yet? Allow me to explain...

MUCOID PLAQUE - WHAT'S THE TRUTH HERE?

MUCOID PLAQUE IS NOT WHAT PEOPLE CLAIM IT TO BE

MUCOID PLAQUE is what many claim to be a harmful blocking membrane of gunk which clogs up the intestinal vili, causing potentially fatal malabsorption of food.

This is only partially true.

There does exist a film of mucous, perhaps about a millimeter thick or less, which protects the fragile intestinal vili - that's its job. It's supposed to be there. This is not "mucoid plaque".

However... while this should naturally be self-sustaining, renewing itself every three days or so (much like the mucal inner lining of the stomach), this isn't always the case. Sometimes, in less-than-healthy people, parts of it can become old and stiffened, even stringy or rope-like. This is what "mucoid plaque" should refer to, and not that which is pictured at right here.

So then... what the hell is this stuff??

Well, it's kind of like "FLY PAPER".
